You may not realise it, but dietitians are on the frontline tackling #COVID19. At every stage, dietitians have an important role to play in helping people prepare for, face and recover from this disease.
Malnourished people or people with pre-existing health conditions are at increased risk if they catch COVID-19. In the community and secondary care, dietitians continue to support these people to improve nutrition and hydration so they are better placed to tackle the disease. No diet can prevent you catching COVID-19, but good nutrition can ensure your immune system is functioning properly and that you have the energy you need.
For those in hospital, especially those on ventilators, it is critical care dietitians advising on appropriate nutrition and hydration to support them while they cannot eat or drink for themselves.
Once someone leaves hospital, they may still need rehabilitation support, and dietitians will be the ones supporting them to rebuild their strength and recover more quickly with optimal nutrition.
